Red Plate Bed Wetting

Interview with Chiara Santoianni, author of "The Diary of Lara"

Chiara Santoianni is a journalist and a teacher who has written several essays, edited the site Chiara's Angels and has recently published ARPANet his first chick lit novel titled The Diary of Lara . Here is what I raccontantato about his book and more ...

- How much of Clare in the character of Lara?
In Lara, me is all ... and nothing! Each author brings certainly a part of himself in his characters and stories that I wrote and I was inspired, for the adventures of Lara, with episodes that I have really happened. However, my main character is very different from me, younger is always in search of a just man (which I, fortunately, I have found) and as a more provocative, though in all his attempts at seduction does not lose its innocence. Although I am far more disenchanted with Lara, she's in me the belief that life can still be some surprises, and - with our commitment - to realize our dreams.

- You are the author of essays, as ever for your first novel you chose the chick-lit genre?
In a sense, was the chick lit genre that has chosen me! In fact, I never thought of writing a novel until I was made the occasion of the competition ChickCult ( www.chickcult.it ) of ARPANet: with this objective, I decided to put black and white female characters that have long been cultivated in me: a girl of today, a little 'clumsy and surreal, which addresses all contingencies with a strong dose of irony. On second thought, I do not think I could write more than chick lit, or at least humorous literature : if I write fiction, is to highlight the funny and absurd aspects of life.

- Lara is practically obsessed with Cosmopolitan, but not always read the advice on his favorite magazine give good results. What do you think of women's magazines?
Yes, "Cosmos" is in a sense, the best friend Lara, his refuge, the universe to deal with. This does not mean that the Cosmoconsigli always lead to success! Actually, I've never been much attracted by women's magazines, at least until a certain age, when I became a diligent reader of your Cosmopolitan, however, that I happened to read since the late '70s and remains the ' only women's magazine that sometimes I buy. I think you have to make a distinction: some magazines, Cosmo in the first place, are certainly rich in ideas and tips useful and sometimes essential, others serve only to spend time at the hairdresser ...

- All women can identify easily into the character of Lara loves shopping, is set in the diet, I love being with her friends and hopes to be realized in the work. But because it is difficult being a woman in a world where things are easy if you are beautiful and cheeky (as Ginger), and the credit is always put in the background?
Even in my life there was a Ginger and I have seen with my own eyes that, for the kind of woman, all doors open magically. But they are also ready to close again just as easily, if behind a pretty face, nice body and often only apparent availability (men like to dream) there's also the commitment and the brain. Lara is not perfect, but we fa, sia pure con molta più fatica di altri.

Esatto. Tutte le figure maschili del libro sono decisamente negative, poiché riflettono i peggiori aspetti del world of men, women, those with which we confront us daily but we often fail to admit. I do not think I ever have a totally positive male universe, but I promise that the sequel will try to be less ruthless!
- A feature of your book is that there are many trips to Paris, London, a cruise in Northern Europe. I guess that places you've seen really. What is the trip for you?
In Paris and London have been many times, the trip on the fjord is still a dream! I was lucky enough to travel anywhere from a young age and this has opened my very the mind, making me to know other realities. Today they are forced to travel less and feel really the lack of more spacious horizons for me travel is especially knowledge and enrichment, but also large natural spaces pristine. In the next novel, Lara will travel again ...

- Lara has also had some experience as a deputy, and has a low opinion of the school, so look for that in every way to avoid returning to teach. Since you're also a teacher, what do you think of school today?
I, like Lara, I have a low opinion of school today, while a beautiful memory of that of time. That, unfortunately, will never return. Today's students are unmanageable, but the fault is not only of modernity with its constant stress: it is easy to blame the playstation, when who should cultivate the boys back home can not or they are apathetic, and who should motivate teachers discourages them, indeed are being pursued.

- Do not anticipate the ending ... but I ask you one thing: money bring happiness?
do not think the money do all happiness, but they can do at least one side. Can be used to achieve a great dream, for example. And always it takes many. If we had money, neither I nor my character would change our way of life, it's simply there we would definitely write to !
